Cranes come in various different forms. Each of which is suited for a different circumstance that must be contended with. This post focuses on the loader crane and its function.
Loader Crane
Also known as a knuckle-boom or articulating crane. The loader crane is a hydraulically powered articulated arm. Commonly fitted to a truck or trailer, it is used for loading or unloading items onto the vehicle.
The articulated arm of the crane has many jointed sections. These can each be folded into a small space, allowing for the crane to be stored in a small space on the vehicle when not in use. On certain models, some sections of the arm are telescopic which allows for further reach.
Often the crane will have a degree of automation and be able to unload or stow itself without an operator’s instruction. Automated cranes are sometimes fitted with a remote control, allowing for manual operation of the crane without having to operate its primary, static controls.
