Cranes come in many variations, with different variations suited for different purposes. This post explains some of the main types of cranes and how they can be used for certain jobs.
A crane is a tower or derrick that is equipped with cables and pulleys that are used to lift and lower material. They can either be controlled from an operator in a cab that travels along with the crane, by a push button pendant control station, or by radio type controls.
Telescopic Crane
The main feature of a telescopic crane is it’s hydraulic extending boom. The boom can extend and retract as needed, which allows the crane to be used for varying jobs. The portability of the boom allows a crane like this to operate in areas where other cranes can not.
Mobile Cranes
Mobile cranes can be transported from place to place. They are commonly mounted on mobile platforms which can be on rails, wheeled or on cat trucks. Mobile cranes use either a telescopic boom or steel truss.
