Hand-eye coordination is without a doubt one of the most important skills for a crane operator to have, especially when you’re trying to make sure the crane is always level. Then, of course, there’s coordination on a grander scale. When working on a large site with multiple cranes, diggers and drum compactors, every stage has to be carefully coordinated, so you have to move to the right areas at the right time, to ensure each area is being worked on with minimal downtime or waiting time for the next specialist. A construction site looks a bit like a dance when you watch a time-lapse of the job from start to finish. That said, as important as coordination is for a crane operator, it’s just as vital that the operator is a leader who will shout when something doesn’t feel right because as soon as you’re unsure about something, it’s your job on the line!
