Using a crane in a project is often times a necessity, and when it isn’t they can still be a very useful bit of machinery. They do, however, require certain other pieces of equipment in order to be used safely and effectively.

The most important thing when operating a crane is that those who are working around the machinery are wearing builder’s hard-hats and high visibility clothing.

You also need to do everything you can to mitigate risk in the operation. This means that you need to use the correct equipment for handling the materials being lifted, whether that means using straps, slings, clamps or any number of tools. These all have a ideal usage, and an understanding of what should be used in what situation is essential for anybody managing a crane operation. The consequences of failing to use the correct one could result in the materials slipping out of its hold, falling down and getting damaged and potentially injuring people.
