A few weeks ago we began to look at the different types of cranes typically used on construction sites. This post continues the overview, focusing on truck mounted cranes.
Truck Mounted Cranes
Truck mounted cranes are just that, cranes that are mounted and operated on via the back of a truck. Truck mounted cranes typically have off-road, rubber tyres but tyre types can vary between models.
Truck mounted cranes are commonly fitted with outriggers. These are stabilizers that keep the thin chassis of the truck planted to the ground. They stop the crane from tipping over sideways as it moves loads over the sides of the crane.
While truck mounted cranes are typically operated manually via a set of controls on the truck, some models have a remote control system. A system like this would allow a crane operator to move around whilst operating the crane, for the sake of better visibility.
