An important part of operating a crane is understanding the load chart associated with it. A cranes load chart is a resource that should not be undermined. It provides information that determines what the crane can lift, as well as ensuring its safe operation.
There are many different crane manufacturers, each of which produce different models that all handle differently. Because of this it’s imperative that the crane’s load chart is well understood—well before operating the machine itself. It is also important to keep in mind that though many cranes have similarities in their load charts, they also have many differences. Ignoring these differences may lead to the overturning or structural failure of the crane.
Bear in mind too that the foot notes in a load chart must also be understood prior to operating the crane. Each cranes load chart will have specific foot notes pertinent to the particular crane type that must be taken into account to ensure its safe operation.
